• Topic & Number of Sites Start with a few which have fairly popular topics such as photography or web design where you can be assured of enough demand & advertisers for Google to serve up AdSense ads on your sites. A topic for which there is little or no demand will not have enough advertisers for Google to provide your site with AdSense ads.
• Earnings Per Click The higher your AdSense earnings per ad click the less clicks you will require to reach your revenue target. Therefore ensure that your content is rich with high paying keywords so that you get AdSense ads that will produce higher earnings per click – sometimes just 1 click can generate as much as $5.00 whereas many clicks will only make $0.01c.
• CTR (Click Through Rate) The higher your CTR the higher your earnings for a particular number of site visitors.

• Relevant Ads If the ads Google serves up are not relevant to your site’s content your site visitors will be unlikely to click on them as they won’t be to do with what attracted them to your site.

Placement of your AdSense units is the post important optimization method. Whether you are using AdSense Ad Units or AdSense Link Units, choosing the right placement for your ads will be key for your CTR (click through rate) success.

Choose a location which is highly visible to your blog/website visitors. Don’t hide your ads in the corner of a page, instead, make them visible. Placing ads within articles is a great option, as well as in headers, footers and sidebars.

AdSense Visibility

Similar to the previous point, but the visibility of your ads are extremely important. New publishers often think placing ads in a blank space on their blog is the only way to place AdSense. However, work your blog around your AdSense units; make sure you AdSense ads are displayed in the highest viewed site space so you increase your CTR.

Color Coordination

Don’t try and make your AdSense ads look like banner ads. Instead, make sure you color coordinate your site colors to your AdSense ads. For example, if you have a site with black text, and red links, use those colors as the AdSense ads colors. Font Style and Size

The debate over what ad size works the best has been brewing for many years. However, every blog is different, and every blog has different techniques. But, the standard high earners are the 300×250 (embedded in blog/website articles), 160×600 skyscraper banner, and the 468×60 horizontal banner.

AdSense Unit Options

AdSense Ad Units are a set of targeted ads which displays the title, description, and URL. AdSense Link Units are a set of links which will bring a potential visitor to a search result of that phrase, and you will get paid if someone then clicks on a sponsored ad. TIP #1 – The AdSense Format

The one format that has work very well for me in the past, and still delivers today, is the so-called Large Rectangle (336×280). This format has resulted in higher click through rates (or CTR). Meaning more visitors out of 100 visitors click on my AdSense ads. The reason for this format outperforming other formats is that the links in this format look more like web links than ad links. Alot of people tend to avoid clicking on ads when they spot them. Choosing this format helps in making your audience ‘ad-blind’.

I’ve also had good results with the Medium Rectangle (300×250) in some occasions. Open your AdSense account and have a look at the format. It resembles the Large Rectangle format. Your best bet is to test the two and see which one outperforms the other on your site. I suggest to test both for at least a week.

TIP #2 – Custom Color Palette

Create a custom color palette to match the main colors of your site. You will see tremendous increase in AdSense earnings if you make your AdSense ads look exactly like the standard web links on your site. If your links are blue, make the AdSense links blue. If the background is white, make the background as well as the border of your AdSense ad white too. Your ad will look as if it is part of your site and will not look like a block of ads people avoid.

Here’s another color tip. Use it if you understand what I mean. I’ll give an example. I have a site with several articles on it. All the articles have a green title and the text is grey. The links on the site are all blue. But, my visitors are really interested in the articles I got published. So what I did is change all my AdSense color palettes on that site to green links with grey text. All the ads look like little previews of articles. I can’t prove it, but my earnings increase by 400% on that site from then on. Again, not all sites are created equal… If you know what I mean.

TIP #3 – AdSense Position

What I recommend is that if you have AdSense ads in the bottom of your site, remove them, or move them to the top. What you want is you want people to click. And if I tell you that most people are active “above the fold”, meaning don’t even bother to scroll down, than you want your ads to be in sight at all times. If your ads are at the bottom, move them to the top. Put them where people can see them quickly.

TIP #4 – Use channels

Channels help you in conducting a good analysis of the performance of ads. Use custom channels to check what web pages are making more money and which ones are obviously not doing so well. Custom channels can be used for conducting analysis on multiple aspects at the same time. Use this analysis for making changes to your AdSense ads. Improving website content can also get you better results. If can get people interested in more, chances are high they will look for more resulting in a click on one of your AdSense ads.

TIP #5 – Limit The Filters

Filters are useful for blocking ads that you do not want displayed on your website e.g. ads of competitors. You can filter out ads that you think are not paying you well by inserting the domain name of these ads in the “competitive ad filter” feature in your AdSense account. Believe me, if there was a secret method to make thousands of dollars a month with little to no work, none of these gurus would go through all the effort to tell the world about it. They would exploit the secret themselves and sit in their walrus leather super massage loungers on their solid gold super yachts and laugh at all the poor saps following the rules

There are no Adsense secrets, just common sense and a couple of neat little ideas that you can implement that will increase the CTR (Click Through Rate) of the Adsense ads being served on your website. And an increased CTR means increased MIYP (Money In Your Pocket).

The first thing you must realize is that content is king. If your website does not have an abundance of keyword rich, search engine friendly content that provides a valuable service to your visitors, no amount of Adsense tweaking in the world will make a difference. There are far too many sites slapped together with the sole intention of generating Adsense income. In fact, for $40 or so on eBay, you can buy a CD with over 350 websites themed to high paying keywords and setup for Adsense. All you have to do is enter your Adsense information and sit back while the Mailman struggles to deliver the hernia inducing bags of Adsense checks to your doorstep.

This is a really cool fantasy, one I like to entertain almost as much as the winning the Lottery fantasy, but it just isn’t going to happen. These sites have no original, valuable content. People who may be suckered into visiting one of the sites will see that in an instant, and view the Google Adsense ads as a desperate and annoying attempt at fooling them into clicking. If a live Adsense editor were ever to visit one of these sites, your Adsense account would be suspended quicker than you can say click fraud.

The underlying non-secret that all the Adsense gurus want to sell you is that if your Adsense ads look like content, and are tightly keyed to your own valuable, original content, you will see your CTR rate double at the least, and more likely triple or more.

I recently began implementing the three steps I am about to reveal to you, and my average daily CTR on one of my sites went from .86% to over 4% literally overnight. Now this is a new site, just under a month old and I only get around 100 visitors a day, but I went from $0.30 a day in Adsense revenue to an average of $6.00 a day in Adsense revenue. Now scale those numbers up to the amount of traffic an established site is getting, and you can see just how phenomenal of an increase this is.

1. Remove the Adsense Border. By default, the Adsense units are surrounded by a border with a text box at the top that says “Ads by Gooooogle”. You goal is to work the Adsense units into your content as seamlessly as possible, so get rid of the borders. Now, Google won’t allow you to delete the borders, but they do allow you to control the colors of nearly every element of an Adsense unit. Simply make the border the same color as the background of your website. This goes for the background color of the Adsense unit as well, change it to match the background color of your webpage.
2. Use Rectangular Box Sizes for your Adsense Units. Like most people, when I first started with Adsense, I primarily used the horizontal skyscraper, you know, the one that looks like a banner. The problem is people have developed an advertising sensory overload, they don’t even see banner ads anymore, they visually tune them out. You need to make your Adsense unit blend in with your content, so use rectangular boxes. I get the best response with the 336X280 box size. Most languages are read from left to right, so try to place your rectangular Adsense unit in a table aligned to the right of your text.
3. It’s all about the colors. Google gives you an incredible amount of leeway with the colors you can select for your Adsense units. Use this to your favor, in addition to changing the border and background color, change the link and URL color as well. Most people are accustomed to clickable links being blue, so make sure your Adsense links are blue, with one exception: if you use a different link color on your site, change the Adsense links to match that color. At the bottom of each Adsense unit there is the URL for website paying for that ad. You want to draw attention away from the URL and towards the clickable link, change the color of the link to match the body color of the ad, generally black.

Just follow these three simple guidelines and I assure you, your CTR will skyrocket. Keep adding more original, relevant content to your site, increase your targeted traffic, and watch your Adsense revenue explode.
